Ongoing Photo Projects
Below are some of my ongoing photo projects of my every day life and surroundings. They include friends, family, my dogs and other images that I have captured over the years in and around my home town in upstate New York. Jennie
Jennie is our little Pyr mix we adopted years ago from the National Great Pyrenees Rescue. She was a timid little pup afraid of just about everything. Today she’s a mature lady with a sweet disposition and gentle presence in our lives and a big sister to our other rescued Pyr Murphy. This series is of her in and around our home over the years.
When life gets hectic and my anxiety levels peak, there is nothing like a calming soul laying near by to calm you down. Just sitting there watching Jennie sleep will slow my breathing and calm my heart rate in no time. She’s my canine Prozac that brings a smile to my face every time I look at her.
When the phrase “Best Friends Forever“ or BFF for short, I am sure it was because they had a dog for a friend. Jennie and her brother are always together. If one of them goes inside or out of sight, the other goes and find them. It’s the same with me, they both always want to be with or near at all times. I sometimes take them for walks separately and the one left behind waits by the door until we come back. Jennie’s brother and I are blessed to have such a wonderful sister.
Murphy
Murphy came to us from National Great Pyr Rescue at 14 weeks. With his mother and siblings he was fostered in Ohio until adopted. We fell in love at first sight from his photos and videos. At home he proved to be a goofy, special boy — and still is.
Great Pyrenees dogs come from the Pyrenees between France and Spain. Traditionally they guarded sheep and goats from wolves and bears. They’re gentle giants, often called “nanny dogs” for their protective, calm nature around children. Murphy shows all these traits: playful yet gentle, he’ll sit and watch over kids while they play. His guardian instincts show in his watchful eye and keen hearing; he alerts us with a deep, chest-shaking bark at the smallest sound.
I love watching him follow my wife in the yard while she waters the garden or fills bird baths; he stays by her side until she goes inside. This breed isn’t for everyone, but after our first Pyr we were hooked — now we have Murphy.
